Repairs: plumbing and heating

Problem 3: Earth bonding

A frequently omitted item seems to be the rating of circuit breakers on electric showers. The reason for this is not clear. Perhaps some plumbers are not as up to date as they should be – although they should comply with current electrical regulations.

In the author's experience a considerable number of showers are operating on either traditional cartridge fuses or wrongly rated RCDs, with an obvious risk for health and safety. Note that the minimum rating shown in the electrical regulations may be more relaxed than the breaker rating required by the appliance manufacturer.
